Meet Dr. J. Carson Rutz
Dr. Rutz grew up in Clarksdale, MS and graduated from the Mississippi School for Math and Science in Columbus. Upon graduation he was awarded the Louisiana State University Honor Scholorship where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology. He was a member of the Honors College, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and a research assistant at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Rutz attended the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry, receiving the American Association of Endodontists Award, the IADR Travel Grant award for research achievement, and the Alumni and Friends Student Clinician Award. He continued his dental education as a general practice resident at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, MO where he gained valuable experience in the private practice and hospital settings. His experiences here included emergency treatment and follow up care for traumatic dental injuries, surgical assisting in cleft lip and palate repair, rotations in emergency medicine and anesthesiology, and general, restorative dentistry. He went on to complete his advanced training in endodontics at St. Louis University, receiving a certificate in endodontics and a Master of Science degree in dental research. His article, Localized Increases in Corticotropin-releasing Factor Receptors in Pulp After Dental Injury, was published in the November, 2007 issue of the Journal of Endodontics. The aim of this study was to identify a potential pathway by which the treatment of toothache pain could become more comfortable for the patient, both intra- and post-operatively.
His professional affiliations include the American Association of
Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the Mississippi Dental
Association, the Jackson Dental Study Club, and the Jackson Dental Society.
Upon completion of his endodontic training, Dr. Rutz and his wife, Kelly, moved to New Orleans, LA where he practiced endodontics for two years. Their son, Harrison, was born in February 2009 and they moved back to Jackson in June 2009 to join Webb Endodontics. In September 2010, Dr. Rutz joined the practice as a full partner and the name of the practice was changed to Mississippi Endodontic Group. Dr. Rutz enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and the outdoors, playing guitar, traveling, and is an avid sports fan.
